On April 20, 2000, the Russian Navy’s nuclear submarine K-141 Kursk sank in the Barents Sea, killing all 118 sailors on board. and Kursk is a game about that tragic event. The circumstances of the real-world disaster have not yet been fully explained, which allows the developer some creative wiggle room. You'll control a spy who is trying to gain information about Shkval supercavitating torpedoes.

We think that the time has come to tell true stories,” said Michał Stępień, chief executive officer at Jujubee in a press release. “It’s fascinating how much our industry has evolved over the last dozen or so years. Games are becoming more and more complex, they offer an incredible audiovisual experience and let us immerse ourselves in virtual reality, but we should expect something more from them. As developers, we realize how much time users spend with our products, but we often fail to remember the responsibility connected to it. We can make games something more than just exciting entertainment. Games can become a tool not unlike books or films.

Kursk will be played from a first-person perspective, and the developers intend to fully model the interior of the ship. Most of the game will take place on the Kursk submarine, but you'll also visit Moscow and the garrison town of Vidyayevo and it's designed for “next-generation devices” with the 4K support. The latest trailer is rendered in real-time and showcases how far Kursk has come so far:

On August 12, 2000, K-141 Kursk, a Russian nuclear submarine, sinks to the bottom of the Barents Sea. All 118 crew members are later found dead. The exact cause of the disaster still remains unknown.

KURSK is coming to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.
