Last year,
Minecraft resurged in a big way. While they have constantly supported Minecraft for a decade now; Mojang are capitalising on this newfound spark by revamping
Minecraft like never before.
The Nether is a hellish dimension that exists within
Minecraft and has done since the Halloween Update of 2010. It has gone without a significant update since then — thankfully, that's about to change. In September 2019, Mojang officially announced the Nether Update. This update will bring new features, biomes, mobs, and more to the iconic dimension —
more on that here.
Recently, a new snapshot for
Minecraft — specifically Snapshot 20W06A — was released which added even more to the Nether. There's not only a plethora of new blocks, biomes, and a new mob but there's also a new ore that's reportedly even stronger than diamond.
Netherite is a very rare ore that can survive the harshness of lava, is not only more durable than diamond but has greater a knockback distance, and deals more damage than diamond.
Find out more specifics over on the official Minecraft.net patch notes page.
Crimson Forests, Soulsand Valleys, and Warped Forests are some of the colourful, new biomes — that you can see images of below. New blocks include Crimson and Warped Stems as well as Basalt blocks, Crimson and Warped Nylium, Warped Wart blocks, and Soul Soil.
There's also new vegetation such as Crimson and Warped fungi, Weeping Vines (that grows downwards from the underside of blocks), Shroomlights, Crimson and Warped Roots, as well as Nether Sprouts. There's also the new Hoglin mob but it admittedly doesn't do all that much at the moment.
