No Man's Sky is already one of the greatest turnaround stories of this console generation, and now the sci-fi space exploration game is about to get even better. Hello Games has announced that No Man's Sky Beyond, a massive new update that actually includes "three major updates rolled into one larger free release," will be available on August 14.

Two of these three included updates have already been briefly detailed. Beyond will bring an expanded Online experience which Hello Games describes as a "a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together." The second major component to Beyond is VR support. Hello Games painted a vivid pictures for the type of experience you can expect with No Man's Sky in virtual reality and it sounds exciting.

Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation, and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your VR peers. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update will soon be ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.

The third major update in Beyond is still a mystery. While a new teaser trailer has been released, it seems the community will have to search for any hidden details as to what it could be.

"Beyond will be our most ambitious chapter so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. We’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future," Hello Games' Sean Murray said.

No Man's Sky: Beyond launches on August 14.
