Xbox is putting Emergence Day on a real street. The official Gears of War account posted the plan: on September 30, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., an Emergence Hole and a Corpser statue take over Hollywood & Vine in Los Angeles for a one-night Gears of War: E-Day event. The first 500 people through the line get to play the game before official Early Access starts. There are prizes, free themed food and drinks, airbrush tattoos, and a photo booth. The series is rated M, and so is the party. You have to be 18.
Playing is only part of the event for fans and gamers alike. If you show up in Gears merch or cosplay and you are in the running for a competition of prizes, including an Xbox Design Lab E-Day controller illustrated by longtime Gears artist Luke Preece. The post tells people to dust off COG armor and dress for the occasion. Merch also gets you in the fast line. Everyone else waits with the first 500 cap.
Queueing for the line starts at 12 p.m. Pacific on September 30, three hours before doors. Access is first come, first served. Miss the 500 and you are looking at a Corpser from the sidewalk.
E-Day also went gold last week. Pre-install for the game opens September 29 at 8 a.m. Pacific on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam. Premium Edition Early Access starts October 1 at 8 a.m. Pacific. Worldwide launch is October 6 at the same hour. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass get the game on launch day, not on the 1st. The Hollywood session sits one day after pre-install and one day before Premium players can download and stay home.
The Coalition built E-Day as a canonical prequel, 14 years before the 2006 original. Peace has just been declared after the Pendulum Wars. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, voiced again by John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro, are home in civilian clothes when the ground opens. The campaign starts at an armistice memorial in Kalona as the Locust Horde erupts. Both men are carrying Carlos Santiago, Dom's older brother and Marcus's closest friend, who died near the end of the last war. Brand director Nicole Fawcette has said that loss leaves Marcus and Dom distant until Emergence Day forces them back together.
Xbox VP of games marketing Aaron Greenberg called it another big moment for the E-Day rollout and pointed at the same hole-and-Corpser build. The franchise has been loud all summer: gamescom trailers, an RTX PC feature pass, a 55-achievement list with a new "Seriously" hunt, and a Game Pass September wave that includes E-Day on the 6th. The L.A. night is the in-person version of that push.
If you are not in L.A., the schedule for E-day is Pre-install September 29. Premium play October 1. Everyone else, including Game Pass, October 6.
