The Coalition has debuted a new story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The roughly two-minute trailer offers a closer look at the chaos of Emergence Day and the early days of the fight between humanity and the Locust Horde.
Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel set 14 years before the events of the original 2006 game. It follows a young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust first erupt from beneath the surface of Sera and begin their war against humanity. The trailer highlights the confusion and brutality of that first night, the formation of Bravo Squad, and the beginning of the partnership that would define much of the series.
The new footage shows the sudden scale of the attack, with Locust forces pouring into cities and overwhelming unprepared defenders. Dialogue in the trailer underscores the shift from what initially appears to be a localized disaster into a full-scale war. Marcus and Dom are positioned as soldiers trying to hold the line and protect civilians while the nature of the enemy is still barely understood.
The story remains tightly focused on Bravo Squad’s perspective. Players experience the unfolding catastrophe through the eyes of the characters on the ground rather than through a broader global view. This approach keeps the narrative personal even as the world around them collapses.
Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled to launch on October 6, 2026. It will release as an Xbox console exclusive alongside a PC version. The game arrives during Xbox’s 25th anniversary year and continues The Coalition’s work on the franchise that helped define the original Xbox 360 era.
The title also marks a return to the series’ roots by exploring the event that set the entire conflict in motion. Previous mainline entries largely dealt with the long war that followed Emergence Day. E-Day instead examines how that war began and how Marcus and Dom first came together in the middle of it.
A playable demo and further campaign details are expected closer to launch. For now, the Gamescom story trailer gives the clearest sense yet of the tone and focus of the prequel: desperate, grounded, and centered on the soldiers who were there when the ground first opened up. Remember, Gears of War: E-Day launches October 6 on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
