Palworld Devs Say The Next 1.1 Update Will Not Take A Year After Fan Suggestions Flood Social Media

Pocketpair is already planning Palworld’s first major update since the 1.0 launch, but the studio has moved quickly to lower expectations about its scale. Publishing and communications lead John “Bucky” Buckley clarified that the team is "not planning to spend a year making a massive update for 1.1" after an open request for player suggestions generated more than a thousand replies filled with ambitious ideas.

The exchange began when Pocketpair posted an image of an internal "Palworld v1.1 Brainstorming Session." Buckley replied that it was "time to get back to the grind" and invited ideas from the community. The response was immediate and overwhelming. Players suggested adding entire new continents, raising the level cap by large amounts, introducing extensive variant systems for the existing roster of Pals, and other features that would require major development investment.

Buckley later acknowledged he had "shot myself in the foot." In a follow-up message he explained that proposals on the scale of new continents or double-digit level increases "are not really what we want to do with v1.1." While the team remains open to ideas, he made clear that the next update is not intended to be a year-long project of the same magnitude as the jump from early access to 1.0.

That 1.0 release, which arrived in July after more than two years in early access, added dozens of new Pals, a new region, late-game equipment, additional structures, and significant changes to the open world. The studio appears determined to avoid repeating a multi-year development cycle for every subsequent update. Buckley has previously indicated that Pocketpair does not intend to support Palworld indefinitely in the style of games that receive years of continuous large-scale expansions.

When asked about a possible variant system for Pals, Buckley noted that the technical challenge was less of an issue than the time required. Creating variants for more than 200 Pals by hand would likely take a year or more unless the team focused almost exclusively on that feature. The studio has also reiterated its preference for hand-crafted work over heavy automation or generative tools.

The clarification sets a more measured tone for Palworld’s post-launch period. The game continues to hold strong player numbers more than a month after 1.0, and work on further content is clearly underway. At the same time, Pocketpair is signaling that 1.1 will be a meaningful but contained update rather than another transformative expansion that keeps players waiting for an extended period.

No release window has been announced for version 1.1. For now the message from the studio is straightforward: suggestions are welcome, but the next update will not be a year-long mega-project. After the long road to 1.0, Pocketpair is aiming for a faster, more sustainable cadence.
