After being rumored for some time, Electronic Arts finally made the official announcement, just a few days ago, that they were releasing a
brand-new entry in the Need for Speed series in the form of
Need for Speed Heat; expected to release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC(Origin) on the
8th of November.
The good news don't stop there, however, as Electronic Arts has also revealed that
Need for Speed Heat will feature absolutely zero loot boxes. This information was revealed by Electronic Arts Community Manager Ben Walke during a Q&A over the
Need for Speed subreddit.
"
There are no loot boxes in NFS Heat, and there won’t be. That’s not a semantics play, either – no loot crates, no "surprise mechanics", nothing," revealed Walke by reassuring players that the game will follow a more traditional model for additional content.
Electronic Arts has build a very negative reputation among the video game community due to their knack for pushing loot boxes and microtransactions on their games and, by association, the player. Hopefully they won't be adding any sketchy mechanics in the future but, as of now, this is great news for fans of the long-running
Need for Speed series.
Hustle by day and risk it all at night in Need for Speed™ Heat, a white-knuckle street racer, where the lines of the law fade as the sun starts to set. By day, Palm City hosts the Speedhunter Showdown, a sanctioned competition where you earn Bank to customize and upgrade your high-performance cars. At night, ramp up the intensity in illicit street races that build your reputation, getting you access to bigger races and better parts. But stay ready – cops are waiting and not all of them play fair.
Need for Speed Heat will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC(Origin) on the 8th of November.
