Chrono Trigger was released on Steam, last February, and fans immediately noticed that there was something wrong with the graphics. Not only was the graphics the problem but they also complained about it being a port of the mobile game and that it was poorly implemented on PC. After all the backlash, the
Chrono Trigger Steam Community
posted a statement addressing the issue and promising that a fix was on the way. Well, the wait is now over and the patch has been released fixing character sprites, fonts and backgrounds.
This is what the patch does:
- Character sprites and background graphics adjusted to be more in-line with the original style of Chrono Trigger. This can be selected from the menu as “Original” graphics, and is the new default selection.
- The font has been updated to give the game a more classic look.
- Text which did not match the game experience on PC has been revised, and a large number of other text issues have been corrected.
- Fixed the way the word “TRIGGER” is displayed as it floats in on the title screen.
- Adjusted the order of the demo video and animated opening sequence from the title screen to be more in-line with previous versions of the game.
- The background gradient of each text window has been adjusted to make it darker towards the bottom.
The Update posted on the
Chrono Trigger Steam Community also states that they are working on the UI[User Interface] for the game that promises to optimise PC play (keyboard and/or controller), as well as optimisation for tablets and mouse. So expect more updates in the coming months.
In this comparison you can see what the changes made to the graphics were. On the left you can see the graphics fans complained about and on the right you'll see the updated graphics that make the game look more like it did on the Super Nintendo.
