During Gamescom's "Opening Night Live," which was hosted by Geoff Keighley, a brand new action-RPG set in a dark fantasy world called The Lords of the Fallen was revealed. The sequel to 2014's Lords of the Fallen is currently being worked on by HEXWORKS, a studio owned by CI Games. It is being developed for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it is being powered by Unreal Engine 5.

The Lords of the Fallen was unveiled with three minute cinematic trailer and showcased the game's new dark fantasy setting.Actor Joseph Quinn provided the voiceover for the trailer (Stranger Things, Game of Thrones). CI Games also unveiled the game's new title and logo, in addition to key art that depicts the expansive world as being divided between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead, which is an essential aspect of the gameplay. Make sure and check it out below!

The Lords of the Fallen is an all-new adventure that takes place more than a thousand years after the events that transpired in the first game. It is set in a vast, interconnected world that is more than five times larger than the world that was featured in the first game. An expansive role-playing game experience, filled with NPC quests, compelling characters, and rich narrative, players will first need to craft their own hero before engaging in the game's single-player, immersive campaign. They will also have the option to invite a second player to join them in their adventure in uninterrupted online co-op play, which is a new feature for the franchise overall.

Saul Gascon (Dead by Daylight, PayDay 2) and Cezar Virtosu (Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed: Origins), the company's Executive Producer and Creative Director, respectively, are in charge of running Hexworks. They started their company in 2020 and now lead a global team consisting of over 75 internal developers and a network of external partners. All of these people are working together to create a new dark vision for the divided worlds of The Lords of the Fallen. The Lords of the Fallen is the only version of the game that will be available for next-gen consoles and the PC. It is powered by Unreal Engine 5.

The Lords of the Fallen is the spiritual successor fans of the original title have always wanted,” said Cezar Virtosu, Creative Director. “The game is significantly larger, with a vast, interconnected dual world split between the realms of the living and dead, that players can explore alone or with friends. It's darker and more challenging, with faster soulslike combat, stronger thematic, richer narrative, deeper RPG systems, and more immersive storytelling."

Key features of the upcoming game include:

  • A vast, interconnected world – over five times larger than the original game
  • An expansive RPG experience – a huge roster of NPCs to meet and stories to uncover
  • Tactical combat – a fast, fluid and challenging combat system
  • Devastating magic – turn the tide of battle with spells and character buffs
  • Uninterrupted online co-op – explore a vast and dark world together
  • Define your legend – full character customisation and progression

Later on this year, a comprehensive walkthrough of The Lords of the Fallen's gameplay will be made available to players.

The Lords of the Fallen is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Learn more by visiting the official site: www.thelordsofthefallen.com.
