Game Freak, the studio behind the legendary Pokémon series, is stepping into bold new territory with the reveal of Beast of Reincarnation, a futuristic action RPG coming in 2026. Unveiled during Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase, the game will release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. Feast your eyes upon the trailer down below:

Set in the distant future of 4026, humanity teeters on the brink of extinction, and players take control of a fierce new protagonist: Emma the Sealer, introduced in the reveal trailer as "the blade that will destroy the Beast of Reincarnation.”

Unlike the turn-based battles of Pokémon, Beast of Reincarnation emphasizes demanding, technical combat. The gameplay reveal highlights fast-paced battles against massive beasts and mechs, parry mechanics, and flashy swordplay all wrapped in a visual style that draws comparisons to Soulslike gameplay that many gamers have come to love and enjoy.

In the game Emma isn’t just facing monsters she’s fighting against the hands of fate itself. The game’s tone is grim but beautiful, set in a decaying world filled with mysterious ruins, biomechanical enemies, and awe-inspiring environments that hint at a long-lost civilization. The trailer paints a haunting yet captivating picture of what’s to come.

The game was originally codenamed as Project Bloom, back when the game was first announced in 2023. At the time, it was set to be published by Take-Two’s Private Division label, but following the label’s sale, the publishing rights shifted to a company called Fictions. Despite the changes behind the scenes, Game Freak has taken the mantle and continued developing the title under the direction of Kota Furushima.

"We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to create new IP that is bold and tonally different from our prior work,” Furushima said in an earlier press release.

That’s quite the understatement. As Beast of Reincarnation appears to be a major shift for Game Freak, moving away from Pokemon and creature-collecting format that made it famous and into full-fledged, narrative-driven action RPG territory.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the game including how some of the systems like leveling, exploration, and customization might work but based on what we’ve seen, Beast of Reincarnation could be an interesting turn for Game Freak and one of it's most ambitious project in years.

Beast of Reincarnation launches in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Expect more news about details and gameplay breakdowns in the coming months.
