Deep Silver has jumped through their fair share of hoops as they tried to develop the next installment for their Dead Island series. Initially announced in 2014, a year removed from the release of their stand-alone expansion, Dead Island: Riptide, they quickly moved into development with Yager Development (Spec Ops: The Line developer), before later scrapping them and moving forward with Sumo Digital as the new team in charge.
Since then, news from them have gone quiet. Meanwhile original developers, Techland, who left to create their own critically acclaimed zombie shooter, Dying Light (released in 2015), released footage of their sequel at E3 back in June. Only until July 5th, on Dead Island's Twitter page, they announced the release of their new mobile game -- Dead Island: Survivors, developed by FISHLABS (their parent company being Deep Silver), where they commented back to another tweet asking about the future of the franchise:
Dead Island: Survivors is a tower defense strategy game devised around collecting heroes and protecting your base from zombies, it was released on July 5th, 2018 for the iOS App and Google Play Stores.
