Square Enix's long-awaited
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition was finally released on the Nintendo Switch about a month ago; after being one of the first titles to have been officially confirmed for the handheld hybrid console before Nintendo even revealed what the hardware was.
The Nintendo Switch version of
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is not just a mindless port, however, as the game features content that is not present in other versions of the game; starting with the orchestrated soundtrack, Japanese voice-over, and a 16-bit version of the full game.
With all that said,
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is still the port of a game that was released 2 years ago on platforms way more powerful than the Nintendo Switch; meaning that some graphical downgrades were to be expected.
Digital Foundry have recently released a thorough analysis that compares the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game with the recently released Nintendo Switch edition, and the results are surprisingly favourable in terms of performance.
Other than the game's graphics, all versions of
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age are locked at 30 frames per second, and the Nintendo Switch actually manages to keep a rather solid frame rate throughout — albeit with some minor dips during fights. Don't take my word for it, though ,and be sure to check out Digital Foundry's full analysis down below.
