Back in February, we found out that Square Enix's
Kingdom Hearts III and Capcom's
Resident Evil 2 were leading the
Top 20 list of best-selling games of January, with
Kingdom Hearts III sitting comfortably in the first place; something somewhat expected given that the game was finally ending the
Kingdom Hearts saga.
Kingdom Hearts III also surpised us all by selling a staggering
5 million copies within the first days after its release, which are numbers that were obviously keep going up as time went along. In contrast, Capcom's
Resident Evil 2 was trailing behind with a very impressive
3 million units sold during its first week since release.
Well, it turns out that Square Enix's critically acclaimed
Kingdom Hearts III has managed to stay in the number one position, as a new report reveals that the game is currently the best-selling game of the year, beating out other heavy hitters such as Ubisoft's
Tom Clancy's The Division 2, Electronic Arts'
Anthem, Capcom's
Resident Evil 2, and Rockstar's
Red Dead Redemption 2 — taking the second, third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.
So far,
Kingdom Hearts III has done fantastically well, but the year has just begun and there are still a bunch of titles that could end up taking that first place from it, namely Nintendo's
Pokémon Sword & Shield, Respawn Entertainment's
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and even Naughty Dog's
The Last of Us 2, so it'll be definitely interesting to see how
Kingdom Hearts III does throughout the year.
KINGDOM HEARTS III tells the story of the power of friendship as Sora and his friends embark on a perilous adventure. Set in a vast array of Disney and Pixar worlds, KINGDOM HEARTS follows the journey of Sora, a young boy and unknowing heir to a spectacular power.
