Square Enix's
Kingdom Hearts III and Capcom's
Resident Evil 2 remake have had a fantastic launch; both managing to exceed the already high expectations both companies had for these titles.
Kingdom Hearts III managed to sell an impressive 5 million units within the first days since it launched and, according to Capcom,
Resident Evil 2 sold an equally impressive 3 million units within its first week. Not only that, but
Kingdom Hearts III also managed to become the most-downloaded game on the PlayStation Store; beating out
Resident Evil 2 — which had released a few days before Square Enix's RPG.
A recent study by NPD Group Analyst Matt Piscatella revealed that both
Kingdom Hearts III and
Resident Evil 2 have been doing great in the sales department by being among the best-selling games of January in the United States; coming in at the first and second spot, respectively.
Interestingly enough,
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe — a port of the 2013 Wii U title — manages to comfortably take that third spot as one of the best-selling titles of January; proving that even a port can manage to sell well when marketed appropriately.
KINGDOM HEARTS III tells the story of the power of friendship as Sora and his friends embark on a perilous adventure. Set in a vast array of Disney and Pixar worlds, KINGDOM HEARTS follows the journey of Sora, a young boy and unknowing heir to a spectacular power.
Kingdom Hearts III is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The genre-defining masterpiece Resident Evil 2 returns, completely re-built from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience. Using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror saga with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-poundingly immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.
Resident Evil 2 is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
