Obsidian Entertainment officially unveiled The Outer Worlds 2 during today’s Xbox Showcase, spotlighting the lawless new colony of Arcadia, an October 29, 2025 release date, and the game’s $79.99 price tag. A Deluxe Edition will also be available, though details on its bonus content are still forthcoming. Check out the new gameplay trailer down below:
This sequel to the cult-favorite The Outer Worlds sets players loose in Arcadia an even more dangerous and chaotic system than Halcyon. Ravaged by space-time rifts, faction wars, and unchecked corporate greed, Arcadia offers players an unhinged playground where every decision can ripple across the colony in real-time.
A New Role in a New Frontier
You’ll play as an agent of the Earth Directorate, assigned to Arcadia with a mission that quickly spirals into a conflict involving three dominant factions:
- The Protectorate - An authoritarian military government with total control in mind
- Auntie’s Choice - A corporate juggernaut with consumerism as its weapon of choice
- The Order of the Ascendant - A scientific religious cult mixing belief and biotech
Every decision matters. Obsidian promises that player choices will reshape propaganda, control territory shifts, and unlock wildly different story paths and endings.
Gameplay Upgrades and Companions
Returning fans will be happy to hear that science weapons like the Shrink Ray are back, while newcomers can enjoy parkour-style traversal, an upgraded combat system, and deeper character customization.
Players will also recruit from six unique companions, each with conflicting ideals and personal goals that influence the story. These companions will react dynamically to your actions, and potentially even turn on you based on your allegiances or choices.
A Price Hike, Luckily We Have Game Pass Access
For the first time in Xbox Game Studios history, The Outer Worlds 2 launches at a $79.99 USD base price. While some may balk at the higher cost, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get access on day one, both on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The Outer Worlds 2 will also release on Steam and PlayStation 5, giving non-Xbox players access at launch though they’ll pay full price unless bundled in with later offers.
Obsidian’s long-awaited sequel looks to expand everything players loved about the original: witty writing, open-ended choice systems, and satirical jabs at capitalism and authoritarianism. With Arcadia as its wild new stage, The Outer Worlds 2 is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most anticipated RPGs.
