Octopath Traveler is a role-playing game, developed by Square Enix, that was released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in July of last year; becoming an instant hit that not even the developer could foresee.
The game managed to
sell over 1 million copies in less than a month since it was released, which eventually made Square Enix update fans of the game on what to expect in the future.
On the last day of 2018,
Square Enix revealed that 2019 would be a year of preparation for them, assuring fans that they have plans for another game in the same vein of
Octopath Traveler. Well, they weren't lying.
Recently, the developer announced, with a new gameplay trailer, that they are working on another
Octopath Traveler game that will be set several years before the events of the Nintendo Switch version.
This new
Octopath Traveler game will be released for Android and iOS devices, with an early trial version becoming available in Japan on the
12th of March. No news on whether the game will be available in Western countries has been revealed, but it is likely the case.
As far as the game's graphics go,
Octopath Traveler for mobile devices looks almost exactly the same as the Nintendo Switch version — with some graphical downgrades but nothing too major; mainly it's the lighting effects that have been reduced.
According to the game's description provided by the trailer, the features Octopath Traveler for Android and iOS devices reads as follows:
HD-2D for smartphones – 3D CG screen effects added to pixelized graphics create a magical world on smartphones.
Eight-character party command-based battles – Form a party of up to eight characters to fight in evolved command-based battles. Smooth gameplay with swipe controls.
Choice of story between three reigning champions – The setting is the Orsterra continent. The protagonist is a “Chosen One” who will fight against a great evil that has achieved fortune, power, and fame.
Field commands – Take various actions towards characters on the field. Try out all sorts of things, such as “Listen” for information, “Steal” an item, “Hire” an ally, and more.
