In March of this year, Sabotage Studio announced that they were working on a brand-new role-playing game — inspired by classic RPG titles like the Final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger — called Sea of Stars, which was revealed to release for home consoles and PC in 2022.
For those who may not be aware, Sabotage Studio is the same developer that gave us the phenomenal The Messenger — an action-adventure game that drew inspiration from the Ninja Gaiden series, and featured a unique mechanic that allowed players to switch between 8-bit and 16-bit graphics — which is actually an ability that does affect the game's environment.
Interestingly enough, the developer also revealed that Sea of Stars is a prequel to The Messenger, even when the gameplay will be completely different, and the art style is, again, more similar to the aforementioned role-playing titles from the 16-bit era.
Ever since the announcement, which had fans of the RPG genre immediately hooked, Sabotage Studio has been releasing more information, and new trailers to get players excited; showing off the beautifully realised open world, and those gorgeous 16-bit graphics.
Today, however, we finally have some gameplay footage for Sabotage Studio, which was shared during a livestream that took place earlier today — where we see Sea of Stars Creative Director Thierry Boulanger playing through the game, and showing off some exploration and combat.
On top of this, we also get to hear some of the music composed by Yasunori Mitsuda(Chrono Trigger, Xenogears) amazing music for Sea of Stars — which makes the upcoming title sound even more like the classic titles its drawing inspiration from.
Take a look:
Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by the classics. A prequel story set in The Messenger’s universe, it tells the story of two Children of the Solstice who will combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fending off the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.
Sea of Stars is expected to release for home consoles and PC in 2022.
