Developed by Aquria and published by NIS America, The Caligula Effect is a role-playing game that was originally released in 2017 for the PS Vita. A remastered version of the game titled The Caligula Effect: Overdose is currently being developed for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam and will be available at some point in 2019.

Upon its release, the original game's reception was mixed to average, getting some criticism for the tedious and lengthy battles, lack of a proper character bonding system, and poor performance on Sony's handheld console. On the other hand, The Caligula Effect was praised for the battle system as a whole, and for delivering a fresh idea to the genre.

Today, NIS America has released a brand new trailer for The Caligula Effect: Overdose, which shows off some of the game's turn-based combat, as well as introducing players to some of the characters trapped in this imaginary paradise.

Take a look:

An idyllic world that exists for the sake of letting people forget about the pain and problems of reality. In this world created by a sentient vocaloid program, μ (Mu), reality and fantasy has become blurred, allowing people to relive their high school years in bliss.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose will be available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in 2019.
