Michael Fassbender Believes ASSASSIN'S CREED Could Be The First Part Of A Trilogy

Assassin's Creed hasn't gotten off to the best of starts either critically or financially, but star Michael Fassbender sounds keen on getting to return to the franchise for at least two more instalments...

In Assassin's Creed, Michael Fassbender plays both Callum Lynch and his ancestor Aguilar, and in news which should come as no surprise to fans of the long running video game franchise, there's already been talk of a sequel. Whether or not that will happen hinges on how well it performs this weekend at the North American box office and overseas, but Michael Fassbender already has some big ideas!

"We had an idea of what would happen over three stories, basically, when we were starting this one," he tells Digital Spy. "It'll be a different time zone, for sure. A different regression." That makes sense given how the games hopped around different time periods, and Fassbender went on to explain why that excites him and his thoughts on putting an Assassin's Creed twist on real life events.

"History was always one of my favourite subjects at school. I really enjoy this exploration of history," the actor continued. "What's fun about the history element of it as well - and this is something we did with the Spanish Inquisition - is: we all have an idea of what happened in that period of time; it seemed to be some sort of religious cleansing, the Spanish Inquisition. But what's fun is when you put a little slant on it. Actually, Templars and Assassins were at work behind the scenes there, and there was something political that was going on behind that façade. That's fun to play with."

It would be a lot of fun to see the Assassin's Creed franchise, but based on the reaction to the first instalment, whether or not anyone will want to see that is hard to say. What do you guys think?
