While it's not a direct adaptation of any one Assassin's Creed title, it's clear to see how the games have influenced the recently released movie. However, it now appears as if we can expect to see the film also directly impact the franchise. How? Well, it's going to involve some big changes to the Animus.

Rather than the virtual reality headset/lounge chair we've grown accustomed to seeing the likes of Desmond Miles use over the years, the film uses a giant mechanical arm and holographic lights to show off the memories of the user, and that's something we can now expect to see added to the games.

"We're really excited about it," director Justin Kurzel tells IGN of the Animus' redesign. "Actually, Ubisoft were really interested in it. They thought that the potential of it to actually interact as gameplay was really interesting. So they were talking about maybe evolving it even further for possible games for the future. They've talked very seriously about making the Animus more active, and they were really, really excited by, especially, those scenes where you see Callum fighting."

Why though was the Animus changed so drastically? "Well, when I was introduced to the Animus chair, I kind of instantly just saw that as a problem. Not its design, and not the way it interacts within the game, but I just kind of thought, 'god, it's going to be so passive and inert.' All you're you're going to be doing is cutting back to Michael [Fassbender] sitting there in a chair. I could just see myself, like- how many different ways can we shoot Michael in this chair with his eyes fluttering?"

Are you excited to see the movie's Animus added to the Assassin's Creed games? Let us know below.
