Dead Rising 4 didn't match Capcom's expectations. From the beginning, Capcom Vancouver announced that Dead Rising 4 would serve as a return to the series' roots. Frank West, the protagonist of the first game, has returned and the whole project was supposed to capture the magic of the first installment, but something didn't click and Dead Rising 4 sold only one million copies.

According to Kotaku's source, aring 50 people were laid off as part of a bigger reorganization within the studio. The next Dead Rising, which had apparently been over-scoped and under-staffed, has been reduced in scope. "The unannounced game, which was a very early prototype and had not yet been greenlit, was envisioned as a third-person action-adventure game set in an alternate reality version of New York" has been scrapped, too. Here's Capcom's statement:

"Capcom Vancouver has undergone a restructure which has impacted approximately 30 per cent of the studio, as part of its regular periodic assessment of upcoming projects and overall studio goals. The team is continuing to work hard to support the recent release of Puzzle Fighter for mobile and is dedicated to its flagship Dead Rising series."
