Nintendo just streamed a new Direct that focused completely on Super Mario Maker 2, revealing a bunch of new features for the game, and it seems they didn't really tell us everything about it just yet.

Earlier today Nintendo streamed a Super Mario Maker 2 Direct, which gave away a plethora of new details about the sequel to the acclaimed level-making title released in 2015 for the Wii U. It appears, however, that Nintendo didn't share everything about the game, as some keen-eyed Twitter user spotted something very interesting shown in the presentation.

As we already knew, Super Mario Maker 2 would be introducing Super Mario 3D World as part of the game's new Game Style for players to make levels of; based on the Nintendo Wii U game of the same name, which featured some new elements like the clear pipes and Mario's brand-new Cat Suit.

During today's Nintendo Direct, the presentation showed some screenshots of the game's Game Style menu, which featured the original themes from the first game: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U. What's interesting is that the brand-new Super Mario 3D World Game Style is shown under a different category called Extra Game Styles.

Before we jump to a conclusion, the Direct did mention that the new Game Style was not like the ones from the original Super Mario Maker in the sense that players will not be able to make levels using the Super Mario 3D World Game Style and seamlessly switch to any of the other Game Styles, as it isn't compatible because of some of the new items.

What's even more interesting is that the category is called "Extra Game Styles" in plural, suggesting that Super Mario 3D World will not be the only new Game Style added to the game; opening the door to other Game Styles being introduced like Super Mario Bros. 2 (North American version), Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, or even Super Mario Galaxy Game Styles with its 2D sections — which can easily incorporate some gravity fields to add even more options.

This is all speculation, since Nintendo hasn't said anything about this just yet. If they are to reveal some new information, we'll likely have to wait for this year's E3, since they just released a Super Mario Maker 2 Direct and they won't be sharing anything for a while.

In this new game, a sequel to the original Wii U™ game, players can create the Super Mario courses of their dreams, with access to even more tools, items and features, including the new ability to create slopes for the first time.

Super Mario Maker 2 will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on the 28th of June.
