When Nintendo finally revealed details about the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch, even before the game was officially called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, fans were ovewhelmingly excited to find out that every character was making a return.

The announcement was made during a Super Smash Bros. Direct presentation, and revealed all of the characters making a return with a fantastic mural that featured, well, every playable character in the game.

Every time new characters were revealed, these were added to the mural — which currently features over 70 playable characters; making for one fantastic piece of artwork.

A similar, although far more elaborated, artwork can be found in the game's Classic Mode, and Masahiro Sakurai has recently revealed how this piece of art was created.

In one of Sakurai's recent columns on Famitsu, he decided to answer a fan's question; who wanted to know who the artist behind the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Classic Mode mural was.

Sakurai reveals that it wasn't just the one artist, but a few members of their staff who worked together to create the mural in away that it looked consistent — although Sakurai reveals that it wasn't only up to him to give the mural his approval. The exchange between the fan and Sakurai went something like this:

"What kind of person drew the mural used to express the difficulty in Ultimate’s Classic Mode? Each character was recreated faithfully, it’s incredible – and this is just coming from somebody who has zero aptitude for appreciating art. Also, I’m looking forward to the DLC. Take care of yourself, Sakurai-san, do your best!

"Thank you very much! A few members of the staff worked on it, offering up a stylistic caricature while maintaining the integrity of the design, all the while fine-tuning their work. In addition to getting an OK from me, though, we had to go through and get the OK from each IP’s original publisher, so it took a lot more time and effort than just having to draw it."

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate mural found in Classic Mode is definitely quite the sight that only the most daring players(those who play in the highest difficulty) have been able to glance in its entirety. It truly is an ode to every single one of the characters featured in the game, as well as a celebration to the Super Smash Bros. series itself.

Legendary game worlds and fighters collide in the ultimate showdown—a new entry in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Nintendo Switch system! New fighters, like Inkling from the Splatoon series and Ridley from the Metroid series, make their Super Smash Bros. series debut alongside every Super Smash Bros. fighter in the series…EVER!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
