A few days before the end of August, a trustworthy insider revealed that a new Monster Hunter was in the works, and that the game was expected to launch for the Nintendo Switch. Even more surprising was the fact that this source claimed the game was being developed on the RE Engine.
To provide further context, the RE Engine was built by Capcom, and was first used in Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. Ever since, it has become Capcom's go-to engine to develop new games, but the thing here is that the engine itself had never been used to develop a Nintendo Switch title.
According to the initial report, this Monster Hunter game was actually being developed using a Nintendo Switch-compatible RE Engine, which actually sounded a bit more plausible than Capcom using the same engine; mainly to the Switch's less powerful hardware.
As it turns out, the rumours were true, as Capcom announced yesterday Monster Hunter: Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin; both titles that are currently in development for the Nintendo Switch, and that are expected to launch next year.
With two new Monster Hunter titles announced for the Nintendo Switch, all we needed to know which one is the game that is being developed on RE Engine, and Capcom has recently provided an answer to that question. Shout outs to the people over at Nintendo Everything for pointing us in the right direction.
On their official website, Capcom has recently confirmed that the game that is currently being developed using the RE Engine is Monster Hunter: Rise, and that the engine will "provide a new, approachable Monster Hunter experience that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere and with anyone."
This is actually quite the exciting news, as it proves that Capcom can develop games using the RE Engine on the Nintendo Switch, which can lead to them porting some critically acclaimed titles like Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, the Resident Evil 2 remake, and even Devil May Cry V; with some tweaks here and there in order to run on the Switch's hardware, of course.
