Well, this is certainly an interesting rumor. Both
Eurogamer and
IGN are reporting from separate sources that Nintendo's next (no pun intended) console will be a multifaceted device that is both a handheld and traditional console. Gamers will be able to play games on their TV and then undock a handheld console and continue playing while on the go. It's a neat concept but will it be a revolutionary idea that will convince Third-party developers
(outside of WB Games) to resume making games for the storied gaming company once again? Not being able to play such titles is a huge reason why most gamers stick with PlayStation or Xbox. Lets face it, there's only so much
Mario and
Pokemon one can play.
In regards to the purported functionality of the NX, it's an intriguing idea and one that many have avidly hoped to see for years. The NX is said to be powered by a Nvidia Tegra X1 mobile processor and deliver graphics that are better than the Xbox 360 and PS3 but fall short of the Xbox One and PS4. But this is where IGN and Eurogamer's reports differ; the latter is stating that Nintendo is also considering producing a NX console powered by a Tegra X2 processor, which would make it on par with the Xbox One and PS4. Additional rumors speculate that the NX could debut during the Tokyo Game Show expo this September. The NX is expected to launch in March 2017.
