POKÉMON Video Game Sales Surpass 300 Million Unit Milestone

From 1996 to 2017 - a span that includes 76 different video games - Pokémon games have surpassed the 300 million unit milestone with the most recent, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon now available on Nintendo 3DS.

The Pokémon Company announced that over 300 million Pokémon video games have been sold worldwide to date. That's an incredible milestone that includes 76 different Pokémon games launched since 1996 with the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green for the Nintendo Game boy.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon - the most recent games to launch exclusively on Nintendo 3DS - helped the franchise reach this remarkable milestone. While we don't have specific numbers from Nintendo or the NPD Group (for U.S. sales), it has been reported the recently released games have sold around 1.2 million copies in Japan from November 17 through November 19.

What makes this achievement so impressive is the fact that the series has been primarily based on handhelds since its inception. But with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon the final games based on the Nintendo 3DS, perhaps The Pokémon Company and Nintendo will finally listen to fans and release a "full-fledged" Pokémon game on a home console like the Nintendo Switch.
