Nintendo is surely having a great year since the launch of the Nintendo Switch; their newest handheld hybrid console released in March of 2017. In fact, back in April, Nintendo revealed that the Switch was exceeding all expectations by selling over 17 million units within its first year since release.

It seems that the Switch has really helped Nintendo with those sales, especially after the disappointment that was the Nintendo Wii U—which the Nintendo Switch has already outsold, by the way—as the Japanese company has announced that they've managed to sell an impressive 700 million units since they entered the console market with the Nintendo Entertainment System(or Famicom in Japan) in 1986.

The information comes from Nintendo's Japanese website that posted the number of units sold per console, starting with the Famicom, which sold 61.91 million units, and ending with the very popular Nintendo Switch selling 19.67 million units so far—being the Nintendo DS the undisputed winner, with 154.02 million units as the second best sold console of all time, right after the PlayStation 2.
