Ever since the Nintendo Switch Online service was revealed to feature NES titles, fans have been eagerly waiting for Nintendo to add games from other consoles; something that Nintendo hasn't quite addressed yet, at least not directly.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa stated in February of this year, that the company was thinking of ways to boost the Nintendo Switch Online service's appeal — which is something that people took as a slightly less direct way of saying that more content was coming in the form of either Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, or even GameCube titles.

To date, Nintendo hasn't added any other consoles, as they keep releasing 2 to 3 NES titles to their Nintendo Entertainment System feature — which is something that isn't boding well with fans; taking every opportunity they have to express their disappointment.

It seems that Nintendo are listening to fans, as Furukawa recently revealed, during their annual meeting for shareholders, that the company have considered extending their library of classic titles beyond the NES — although he is careful not to confirm, nor deny, that new games are indeed on their way.

"At this place we cannot tell new information about future classic hardware among others, but we are thinking about providing an extension of the online service which is currently providing Famicom [NES] software, as well as other methods of providing them. We also recognise that there are opinions wanting to play past titles."

The Nintendo Switch Online service currently has over 9 million subscribers, and offers Cloud backup, Online gameplay, and classic NES titles via the Nintendo Entertainment System feature. While the service is lackluster, it is also quite cheap — but boosting its appeal, like Furukawa suggested, is as easy as them adding new games from other consoles.

Hopefully Nintendo are taking this topic seriously, since the Nintendo Switch is already an insanely popular console — and it allowing players to have access to other titles from their massive library of classic titles is an instant win for both the company and the players.

With a Nintendo Switch Online* membership, you’ll get access to online play in compatible games, a growing catalog of classic NES™ titles with newly added online play, and cloud backup for your save data in compatible games.

Nintendo Switch Online is currently available.
