Super Mario Party is the latest installment in the long-running board style party game series developed by Nintendo. The game was announced during this year's E3 and will become available for the Nintendo Switch on the
5th of October.
As new information about the game makes its way online, we have found out that
Super Mario Party will not be compatible with handheld mode—which is, coincidentally, one of the Nintendo Switch's major selling points.
The information comes from Nintendo Soup, who have reported that Nintendo's newest party game will be favouring TV and Tabletop modes in order to make use of each Joy-Con controller individually. From what has been seen in trailers,
Super Mario Party mini games will be using a lot of motion controls, which is the main reason behind the developer opting out of using any controllers besides the Joy-Cons.
This is not the first game to do away with handheld mode as
1-2-Switch, Nintendo's first party game for the Nintendo Switch, also doesn't allow for handheld mode gameplay.
While
Super Mario Party is, like the name obviously suggest, a party game, it is expected to be played by more than one person simultaneously, but it is still quite disappointing that they went the "gimmick route" when developing the game.
This does not mean that the game cannot be taken anywhere as it only does away with handheld mode gameplay, but not Tabletop—although chances are people would much rather play in front of a TV with their friends than on the Switch's screen, especially if they need room to play using motion controls.
The Mario Party™ series is coming to the Nintendo Switch™ system with super-charged fun for everyone! The original board game style has been kicked up a notch with deeper strategic elements, like specific Dice Blocks for each character.
Super Mario Party will be available for the Nintendo Switch on the 5th of October.
