LABO Disappears From UK Charts As DONKEY KONG COUNTRY: TROPICAL FREEZE Is Outpacing Sales On The Wii U

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sales on the Switch have already started to outpace the sales the game had on the Wii U, which is not really a surprise, while the Labo is no longer on the Top 10 UK charts.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze just released a few days ago and is already outpacing sales for the Wii U version of the game, according to the UK charts. This isn't really a surprise given that the Switch is already a more popular console than the Wii U ever was, selling more units in a year than the last gen console did in the 4 years it was officially on the market.

According to an article by Games Industry, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze debuted at No. 2, beaten by the PlayStation's God of War, which has been on the No.1 spot since it released on the 20th of April. It is still an impressive debut for Nintendo's tie-wearing ape.

The Switch version of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is already accounting for almost 17% of the total number of physical sales in the UK. Compared to the sales of the Wii U version during its first week since release, back in 2014, the Switch version sales are 53% higher, which is mostly thanks to the handheld/hybrid console's popularity and bigger install base.

The game may still be considred a bit overpriced given that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on the Wii U, at launch, was sold for 49.99 USD and on the Switch it's selling for $59.99 without any extra content other than a glorified Easy mode in the form of new playable character Funky Kong.

All things considered, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is still a great game and it's finally getting the attention it deserved 4 years ago. People that missed out on the game, because they never owned a Wii U, will probably find that paying full price for the game is still worth the price of admission. People who already played and/or owned the game should probably wait for a price drop before getting it again for the Nintendo Switch.

On a less positive note for the Big N, the Nintendo Labo Variety Pack slips down from the No.3 position to No.13 with a 62% sales slide since last week. Still not as bad as the Nintendo Labo Robot Kit, that has completely disappeared from the Top 40.
