Nintendo Switch's online services will launch in September of this year, Nintendo of America has revealed.
In a tweet tonight, Nintendo simply revealed the service, seemingly titled Nintendo Switch Online, will launch in September, though no specific date or other details were provided.
Nintendo Switch Online will grant Switch owners the ability to play compatible co-op and competitive multiplayer games online by signing into their Nintendo Account. Additionally, a dedicated smartphone app connects to your Nintendo Switch system which, in turn, helps you connect with friends online, allowing you to send online play invitations and easily chat with friends.
Although online play is free for Nintendo Account holders right now, Nintendo Switch Online will transition into a paid service when it officially launches in September. The service will cost $19.99 for a yearly subscription. Included in that price is access to a Classic Games Selection of Nintendo titles like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Balloon Fight as well as special discounts on select digital games from the Nintendo eShop. Additional membership options include $3.99 for one month or $7.99 for three months.
