The Wonderful 101 is one of those hidden games that, sadly, only a few people have been able to play. The game was exclusively released for the Wii U in August of 2013 to positive reviews. Developed by Platinum Games and Published by Nintendo,
The Wonderful 101 featured a group of superheroes(101 to be precise), that would be controlled by the player as they fought their way to fight an alien invasion and save citizens in danger while at it.
The game's controls allowed for the player to gather all the heroes and create Unite Morphs, which were giant structures formed by all the superheroes joined together. The more superheroes you have, the more powerful your Morphs would be. The Wonderful 101 homages classic Super Sentai shows popular in Japan and their designs even resemble those seen in Viewtiful Joe, which is another game Hideki Kamiya worked on.
Due to the Wii U's poor sales, the game didn't thrive the way it was meant to and soon disappeared from store shelves. It is, again, one of those hidden games on the console that not that many people has played but really is a great game. That's why it's so exciting to see Kamiya talking about it and wanting to bring it to the highly successful Nintendo Switch.
According to
Gematsu, the report came from a talk at the Reboot Develop 2018 in Croatia where Kamiya was quoted saying that "
they were going to knock the audience participation up a bit."
“They’re still trying to negotiate with Nintendo whether a possible Wonderful 101 Switch release could happen but it always helps when the people in the audience at Reboot clap if they’d actually buy a Switch version of Wonderful 101. So anybody who would buy that, please clap…"
And the whole room clapped.
Kamiya also talked briefly about
Bayonetta 3 and said that Platinum Games are adding a few gimmicks in order to "raise the bar" while keeping the core elements of the game intact. He gave no further details but mentioned that
Bayonetta 3 is still in development but it will reinvent how the company approaches game-making.
It sure is exciting that they are, at least, considering on bringing
The Wonderful 101 to the Nintendo Switch. The game sure deserves the spotlight and Nintendo's hybrid console is a great way for that to happen. Until then, we'll keep our fingers crossed.
