In 2006, Niholm Falcon released Ys Origins, the latest addition in the Ys franchise. The game initially released in Japan; however it would 12 years before the game saw a console release in the west.
The game acts as a prequel to the seven previous titles, while also filling in some blanks for certain characters in the game. While there is not a massive fan following of the series, in the west, that hasn't stopped the game from getting a fantastic rerelease!
With Dotemu spearheading the release, Ys Origins will be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime this year. Getting ready for release, Limited Run Games has plans to release two physical copies in North America, along with a digital version. A Collector's Edition will also be available that will feature a soundtrack, artbook, and reversible poster.
A trailer was also released to celebrate the announcement, which can be seen below. Make sure to share your thoughts in the comments, and don't forget to check out that new trailer!
Ys Origin is a prequel to the eight previous installations of the Ys video game series. It takes place 700 years before the events of Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished, and tells much of the backstory of Ys, Darm Tower, the Black Pearl, the twin goddesses, and the six priests.
Pre-orders for Ys Origin are available now, and the full game will release for the Nintendo Switch, this year!
