Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released a bit over a week ago; bringing back the iconic series and
managing to sell an impressive 1.3 million copies in its first week since release; becoming a record for first party titles from The Big N.
There is no doubt that the
Super Smash Bros. series, that has been around for almost 20 years next year, has become one of the most profitable and popular intellectuall properties for Nintendo. Even after this time, there are still some small details that even some of the most hardcore fans may not know about; like the fact that the
Super Smash Bros. logo has an actual meaning.
In a recent video on the official YouTube channel for Nintendo Japan,
Super Smash Bros. series creator Masahiro Sakurai explained that the logo actually has meaning besides it being aesthetically pleasant.
According to Twitter user
@FarmboyinJapan, Sakurai explained that the logo's intersecting lines represent the crossover nature of the series, that originally only had characters from Nintendo crossing over. These intersecting lines would divide the circle into 4 sections; each representing the 4 person multiplayer that the series introduced back when the first game released on the Nintendo 64; Nintendo's first console to feature the 4-multiplayer option.
While this detail about the
Super Smash Bros. logo was already known, there are still some people who have no idea that the symbol is an actual minimalist representation of the series' core concept. It's always nice to know these little details about such beloved series like
Super Smash Bros.—especially now that everyone and their mother seems to be talking about
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; the latest entry in the iconic crossover fighting series.
