Nintendo has just surprised fans with the release of update Ver. 8.1.0 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — which was released unannounced, and completely out of the blue — that makes some adjustments to the game's online mode, and has even added a brand-new stage.
First things first, the all-new stage isn't really a new stage, but rather a variation of a previously existing stage. We're talking about "Small Battlefield" — which, as the name very appropriately suggests, is a smaller version of the traditional Battlefield stage.
What's even more interesting is that Final Destination, Battlefield, Big Battlefield, and the all-new Small Battlefield stages now allow players to select any stage-specific music, instead of the classic Battlefield-esque themes from previous Super Smash Bros. titles.
As per usual, a bunch of issues have been fixed in order to give players the best gameplay experience as possible, but the online mode has also been tweaked quite a bit. You can read all the changes made to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's online mode down below, or visit the official Nintendo Support website by clicking right here:
-The online user experience has been adjusted.
-The way matching is determined when using Preferred Rules has been adjusted.
-Following a look at the current number of players eligible for Elite Smash, the threshold for entry has been recalculated to allow more players. Additionally, the way initial values for Global Smash Power are calculated has also been adjusted.
-Further investigations and adjustments to Online mode are expected.
All in all, this was a pretty nice surprise for fans of the popular crossover fighting series. Hopefully Nintendo will soon be revealing more information on the remaining fighters in the Fighters Pass Vol.2, since we haven't had any news since ARMS' Min Min was revealed, and there are still 5 other characters that haven't been announced.
