The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is chock-full of references to other titles in Nintendo's long-running series, and it seems that one of these references may have been hiding in plane sight; that is, until just recently.
Thanks to the keen-eyed people over at GameXplain, we may have proof that Nintendo added a
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker reference in
Breath of the Wild, as it seems that the game's Lurelin Village may well be a future version of the Wind Waker's home town: Outset Island.
According to GameXplain, some of the huts in Lurelin Village are located pretty much exactly where they were in Outset Island — and even the watchtower seems to be located exactly where it was in
The Wind Waker. This is quite interesting, especially for those who are still trying to figure out in which timeline
Breath of the Wild is set.
Nintendo has often referenced past locations in
The Legend of Zelda titles, so it wouldn't be a surprise to find out that Lurelin Village is indeed what became of Outset Island — especially considering that
Breath of the Wild takes place at least 10 thousand years after any of the previous entries in the series; long enough for Hyrule to have resurfaced from the bottom of the sea, as seen on
The Wind Waker.
