Okami is an action-adventure game developed by the now-defunct Clover Studio and published by Capcom that was released for the PlayStation 2 back in 2006. The game would later get ported to the Nintendo Wii and even get an HD remaster for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Windows; with the Nintendo Switch being the latest port of Okami HD to be released.
What many people may not know about
Okami is that it was awarded a Guinness World Record in 2006 for "
Least commercially successful winner of a Game of the Year award". While it was awarded Game of the Year, it is understandable why Capcom may not have wanted to promote the fact that it was also the less comercially successful.
Things have changed in the past twelve years, though, and with the release of
Okami HD on the Nintendo Switch,
Okami is currently available in every current get console, and the game has recently been awarded its second Guinness World Record, right after the NYCC Capcom Panel, for "
Most critically acclaimed video game starring an animal character".
The Guinness World Record
Okami recently got is a bit ambiguous since it doesn't specify what actually deems an animal character well...an animal. Donkey Kong is a gorilla, Sonic is a hedgehog, Spyro is a dragon, and Crash is a Bandicoot, and while all of those may be anthropomorphic animals they are still animals. Regardless, it is still great news to hear that this new record actually comes off more as a praise to
Okami rather than an award that points out a commercial failure—even after winning Game of the Year.
Taking full advantage of the Nintendo Switch system’s touch screen on Handheld mode, you can now use your own divine drawing skills to slash enemies in half or bring back life to the land of Nippon. Celestial Brush? More like Celestial Touch!
Okami HD is available for the PlayStatrion 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
