Octopath Traveler is one of those games that wants players to remember what was it that got them into role-playing games in the first place. Beautiful pixel art graphics that harken back to the 16-Bit era, turn-based combat, engagigng story, and 8 unique protagonists with their own backstory will make
Octopath Traveler a must-have game for Nintendo Switch owners, and fans of RPGs.
Today we are introduced to the last two characters in the game, as well as the talents each of the eight characters have, and how the game will develop their story arcs throughout the game.
Cyrus, the Scholar, sets out on a quest to find a lost home that may hold ancient mysteries. His unique
Path Action is
Scrutinise, which he can use to get helpful information from the people he encoutners in his travels, or even get information that will help him uncover secrets, and solve mysteries.
Ophilia, the Cleric, sets off on a pilgrimage to restore light to her Realm. Her
Path Action is
Guide, which she can use to guide people and lead them to where they are needed most, or she can also use them as allies during battle.
In
Octopath Traveler, each of the eight playable characters have their own unique
Talent, which allows them to gain insight into one of the weaknesses of the unfamilliar foes they're fighting.
-Cyrus: Gains insight into one of his enemies weaknesses at the start of each battle.
-Olberic: Enters Boost mode when defending.
-Alfyn: Concots potions to heal allies and deal damage to foes.
-H'aanit: Captures and tames beasts that he can set against enemies.
-Ophilia: Summons the people she's guiding to the battlefield.
-Primrose: Summons the people she's charmed to the battlefield.
-Tressa: Has an eye for money and can make your party wealthy just by walking around.
-Therion: Uses his lock-picking skills to open special treasure chests that players will find in their travels.
Octopath Traveler will also allow players to choose the character they will start their journey with, and they will meet the other 7 characters along the way. They can then choose which character to take along as members of their party. The game will also allow players to swap characters at any time whenever they visit the local tavern in any town, allowing players to pick up to 4 members to add to their party. By doing so, players can follow the stories of every protagonist they've recruited into their party, being able to see everyone's tale to its completion in a single playthrough.
