Yesterday Nintendo Switch owners got their chance to play Studio MDHR's critically acclaimed
Cuphed on their handheld hybrid device, against all odds as the game was a Microsoft-exclusive title for over a year.
Given that
Cuphead is a port of the Xbox One version, and considering that the Nintendo Switch is a less powerful console in comparison, one would be right to wonder if the game runs just as well on Nintendo's hardware.
Thanks to the people over at Digital Foundry, who have done a thorough analysis on the game's performance, we now have an answer for those who want to know if this port is worth their money or not.
First things first, according to this analysis, loading times on the Switch are good but not as fast as on neither the Xbox One S or Xbox One X. This likely has to do with
Cuphead being compressed to almost a third of the size it is on the Xbox One; with the Xbox One version coming in to be a little bit over 11GB and the Switch version barely being 3.3GB in size.
When it comes to performance itself,
Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch manages to lock the game at a very stable 60 frames per second, which is exactly how the game performs on the Xbox One; no differences there at all, as the game runs just as well on Nintendo's portable system.
Check it out:
Cuphead is a classic run-and-gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.
Cuphead is currently available for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
