According to BoxOfficeMojo, Sony announced last week that the Resident Evil infection will spread into a fifth movie.

Resident Evil 5 has been scheduled for a Sept. 14, 2012 release date and will appear in 3D.

The non-subtitled Resident Evil 5 movie comes after a franchise-high grossing fourth film in Resident Evil: Afterlife. Afterlife did well at the foreign box office, earning over $236 million and $60.1 million last year domestically. It earned roughly the same amount as the first three Resident Evil movies combined!

Resident Evil 5 will hit theaters just two years after Afterlife, which makes it the shortest wait between films in the franchises history.
