Last week, Nintendo and Game Freak finally revealed Generation 8 of their Pocket Monster series, coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch in the form of
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield.
Upon the unveiling of the two new Pokémon titles, some users were very quick to meme the new
Pokémon title by creating a
Pokémon Gun logo; which is obviously a parody of the weapon theme seen in the new
Pokémon Sword and Shield games.
As it turns out, a Twitter user by the name of Cin Ceja revealed that their local newspaper actually published the
Pokémon news and believed
Pokémon Gun was, indeed, one of the games Nintendo had revealed.
The Pokémon Direct was only 7 minutes long, and watching it would have definitely help avoid posting a meme as if it were real news. That said, the meme's status has only been elevated thanks to this newspaper legitimizing as real. What a time to be alive.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be available for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
