PlatinumGames, the renowned makers behind
Vanquish and
NieR: Automata, is one busy studio, as the Japanese company is currently working on the Nintendo Switch-exclusive
Bayonetta 3 and
Astral Chain, Square Enix-publisher
Babylon's Fall, and at least two yet-to-be-announced video games.
In a recent interview with the website Video Games Chronicle, PlatinumGames Studio Head Atsushi Inaba revealed brand-new details on some of those highly anticipated, yet pretty mysterious, titles.
When it comes to
Bayonetta 3, it reportedly will see a change in design process based on Platinum’s past experiences from developing the first two games. Those changes are being made in the name of PlatiumGames' big push towards independence, sparked by the huge success of
NieR: Automata.
"
2019 will be an incredibly important year for us,” Inaba said. “
Without speaking directly to the number of titles we may or may not announce, I can say it’s going to be a year of some major new approaches, new challenges and new methods for us. Basically, we’re building a new foundation that in later years will pay dividends. For us, new challenges are going to be very important,” Inaba added.
“
Right now we’re in the middle of designing something that has never been done before. I know a lot of people say that, but the game we’re working on truly is unlike anything else,” Inaba concluded.
While it's hard to say what that mysterious title actually is, the fact that PlatinumGames gave us some pretty excellent titles, like
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Bayonetta 2, and
Nier: Automata, gives hope that the already revealed and yet-to-be-announced titles will live up to Platinum's gaudy legacy.
Bayonetta 3 is currently in development exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
Babylon's Fall will release on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system and Steam in 2019.
Astral Chain launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch on August 30, 2019.
