Ouya is an Android-based video game console that came as a result of a successful Kickstarter campaign. The console was finally released in June of 2013 and almost immediately become a huge flop due to its poor sales, in spite of the success of its Kickstarter campaign, which led to it being discontinued in 2015.
While the console was discontinued four years ago, its servers have remained online — although they won't be in a few more weeks, as Razer — the Ouya's current owner — recently announced that they will be shutting down the Forge TV and MadCatz Mojo game store servers on the
25th of June.
According to the
FAQ on Razer's website, the user's account will be deactivated on the 25th of June — which will render their account inaccessible, as well as the games on the server and previously purchased titles; keeping in mind that, obviously, they won't be able to purchase any more games after that.
Users will still be able to play some games on the Ouya, unless these require a purchase validation. Access to the Discover section will also be restricted from the 25th of June and on.
At this point, it is unlikely that there are still Ouya owners that still play on the console — especially since most stopped playing pretty much on the same day it launched. End of an era that never really took off. Press F to pay respects.
Your account will be deactivated on June 25, 2019. After this date, you will no longer be able to access your account, games on the server, previously purchased titles, or be able to purchase new ones. You will continue to have access to games that have been downloaded. Users should download games before June 25, 2019 to avoid losing access after the shutdown.
You will be able to play games via the OUYA platform until June 25, 2019. Once it has been shut down, access to the Discover section will no longer be available. Games downloaded that appear in Play, may still function if they do not require a purchase validation upon launch. Contact the game developer for confirmation.
