Back in April of last year, during the Sega FES 2018 event,
Sega announced that they were working on a Sega Mega Drive Mini; a classic-looking console inspired by the success of the NES and SNES Classic consoles by Nintendo.
The announcement came a week after
Sega Chief Operating Officer Kenji Matsubara toyed with the idea of having the company going back to making consoles like in the old days.
As per Sega's announcement, this mini Mega Drive would be manufactured by AtGames, which raised a few eyebrows due to the quality of the products they've worked on in the past; with players reporting emulation issues all around.
The Sega Mega Drive Mini was supposed to be released in 2018, but this date was eventually released because Sega realised that Western players were responding positively to the news; pushing back the console to a yet-to-be-determined date in 2019.
As reported by Siliconera, Sega is currently conducting a few polls in order to have players vote for the games that they want featured on the console.
The official Twitter account of Sega Japan has given players to choose between
Sonic the Hedgehog and
Sonic the Hedgehog 2,
Puyo Puyo and
Puyo Puyo Tsuu, and finally
Shining Force and
Shining Force II. The votes will be available until the end of this week; with 6 days left for players to cast their votes.
This first tweet below is for the
Sonic the Hedgehog games, with the first
Sonic the Hedgehog on top, and
