New Super Mary World is the name of a game that has been on the Microsoft Store since January, and is available for both Windows PC and Xbox One. The problem? It is a shameless rip-off of the original
Super Mario Bros. game developed and published by Nintendo back in 1985.
The game in question is developed by a Chinese developer named FengWangStudio, which has been selling the game for $1.85 USD. The game has currently been reviewed by 201 users, which means that it has roughly managed to make at least $200USD in profit.
What's really interesting is that the game is an exact copy of the original
Super Mario Bros. game and it's bypassed Microsoft's censors for almost an entire year since it was uploaded in January.
Usually, rip-off games like these have the "decency" to at least model different characters but use the same level design and game controls, but this one is quite literally the same game with the exception that some things like the Time Limit, Lives, Score, and World look different and the game's aspect ratio has been changed; other than that, it is pretty much the same game.
Now that this has been publicly outed as a fake, it's very likely that Microsoft will pull the game from the store before Nintendo takes some legal actions. Whatever the case, this news is just as funny as it is embarrassing.
