Jointly developed by Factor 5 and LucasArts,
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was a game released in December of 1998 for the Nintendo 64 and Microsoft Windows that made possible for fans of the Star Wars series to go on missions piloting some iconic ships from the Rebel Alliance as Luke Skywalker himself.
The game was so popular that LucasArts commissioned a sequel in the form of
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, which released in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube, and
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike; with the latter including a Co-op multiplayer version of
Rogue Leader.
Sadly, and no matter how popular
Rogue Squadron series was,
Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike was the last game that Factor 5 and LucasArts developed and released together.
Recently, Reddit user Thanaclara showcased The Jade Moon level from Factor 5 and LucasArts' original
Star Wars Rogue Squadron using Unreal Engine 4; making us all wish that this game, or a proper sequel to Rebel Strike, was officially being developed.
Updates on the progress of this Unreal Engine 4-powered
Star Wars Rogue Squadron game can be checked on the official
r/StarWarsRogueUnreal subreddit.
