Capcom was one of the first companies to show their full support for the Nintendo Switch, and three years later the company is still supporting the popular handheld hybrid system; releasing some of their most critically acclaimed titles for players to enjoy on-the-go.
From some of Capcom's classic series like Mega Man, Resident Evil, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney to all-time classics like the Street Fighter series, and even Devil May Cry — which is a series that had never been released on a Nintendo platform — Nintendo Switch owners have plenty of titles to choose from.
As a matter of fact, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — Nintendo's insanely popular crossover fighting series — actually features a bunch of Capcom characters and Mii Fighter costumes that include Mega Man, Ryu, and Ken as playable characters, and Mega Man X, Zero, and Mega Man.EXE as costumes.
In a recent interview with US Gamer, Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono has revealed that the company is still open to releasing even more Street Figther titles on the Nintendo Switch; and he even teases Street Fighter V releasing for the popular portable console.
"Since the Switch came out, we’ve released Ultra Street Fighter II and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection for that platform. From a business standpoint, these two titles were a success. We are seeing many competitive titles, including Smash Bros., doing well on Switch and players are enjoying those types of experiences on that platform. If there is another opportunity that makes sense for us, we would consider the Switch again. Regarding Street Fighter 5, it is currently exclusive to PS4 and PC. However, as mentioned above, we do see Switch as an important platform for all types of games."
Yoshinori Ono does seem to tease that Capcom has given some thought to Street Fighter V releasing on the Nintendo Switch. Ports like Mortal Kombat 11 prove that graphically demanding fighting games can work on the Switch — with a graphics downgrade, of course — and Street Fighter V does seem very plausible.
Hopefully, in the near future, Nintendo Switch owners will be able to play Street Fighter V on their handheld hybrid console, and even other Capcom titles like the Resident Evil 2 remake, or Devil May Cry 5; after all, the Switch has shown that it is quite capable of running graphically demanding games if the developers want it to.
