THQ Nordic, the publisher which acquires the rights to the franchises such as Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV and deBlob announced the acquisition of the Koch Media group in a deal worth €121 million ($149.6 million). The closing of the transaction which is expected to happen later today would mean that "the new" THQ will acquire not only Koch Media, but also Deep Silver, giving the publisher an access to brands such as Saints Row, Dead Island and Metro.
The company formerly known as Nordic Games will acquire three game development studios, Volition (Saints Row, Agents of Mayhem), Dambuster Studios (Homefront), and Fishlabs, best known for the Galaxy on Fire series. The press release states that Koch Media will continue to operate separately to THQ Nordic. "No restructuring or cost saving measures are planned," the company noted.
Koch CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz also said: "I strongly believe that THQ Nordic is a great strategic fit with Koch Media. In addition to having long experience within games development and publishing, THQ Nordic has the skills, willingness and capital to deliver growth in the future." Hopefully, the new-old THQ which just hit the bull's-eye is on the right path to not repeat the bankrupted THQ mistakes.
