The
Borderlands franchise will be returning in September with the upcoming third instalment. As per usual with the irreverent franchise, you'll be able to team up with up to three friends and take down a variety of enemies and bosses. A new and interesting aspect that's new with
Borderlands 3, however, is that you'll also be able to take on each other.
Gearbox Software, the developers of the upcoming first-person shooter game, recently revealed that there will be a new "Free-for-all" mode in which you'll be able to duel your would-be teammates. As to not tamper with the regular
Borderlands setup, these battles will be entirely optional. There isn't any friendly-fire during regular missions.
With no Rock, Paper, Scissors minigame available, it's said that these battles can be used to settle disputes and/or experience what it's like to be in the crosshairs of your teammates. Gearbox said as such during a recent panel at GuardianCon (via
Comicbook.com):
"Oh, and once you’re in a group, if you and your vault-hunting buddies need to settle a dispute or are just curious what it feels like to be on the receiving end of each other’s weapons and abilities, the new Free-for-all Dueling feature allows for opt-in 1v1v1v1 multiplayer battles."
Borderlands 3 is set to release on September 13th, 2019 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
