Some interesting developments are taking place over at Blizzard as Tom Chilton, the senior designer and game director on World of Warcraft since 2004, has stepped down from that role and moved on to another mysterious project there. His final work on the series was the well reviewed Legion update, but that's it for now as Chilton is setting his sights on something that sounds pretty significant.

"My personal journey working on WoW as Game Director is at an end," he explains, "but my journey with Blizzard isn’t. I’ll still be here, but will be focusing on another project within the company."

No one is saying what's next for Chilton, but we recently learned that Blizzard is looking for a game director for the Diablo series, so there's a lot of speculation that he could be about to set his sights on that instead. There are other possibilities of course, but for now, we're going to have to wait and see. World of Warcraft is in good hands though as assistant game director Ion Hazzikostas is taking over. "I can assure you that the future for World of Warcraft continues to be bright, and as a player, I’m excited to discover what’s in store next alongside all of you." What do you guys think of this news?
